An Australian report has suggested that users of autonomous cars should be exempt from drink-driving laws. The change has been recommended by the National Transport Commission (NTC) who has compared using an autonomous car to getting into a taxi.

With many countries considering updating laws to prepare for an autonomous future, the report also questions whether current laws add further barriers to entry for autonomous vehicles.

The NTC has been looking at the necessary changes to legislation in order to accommodate this change, with autonomous cars expected by 2020 in many countries, including Australia, as we explored in our blog on the rise of driverless cars.
