U.K.-based entertainment agency Merlin, which represents manyindependent record labels, has accused the newly re-launched MySpace
platform of using its artist’s music without permission.
The agency – which represents major artists such as Arcade Fire and
Vampire Weekend – signed a deal with the old MySpace Music service,
though the contract ran out over a year ago. The new MySpace still
displays songs from these artists.
A spokesperson for MySpace told the New York Times that infringing songs
were “likely” uploaded by users.
