“Tumblr” has overtaken “blog” in the list of the top ten most searcheditems on Google. Interest in Tumblr has never before overtaken those
searching for general blogs, which rose sharply from 2005, and began to
decline around 2010.
Tumblr’s popularity in Google searches remained relatively very low
until 2010, when it began a steep rise.
The decline in searches for the term “blog” has been said to reflect the
wavering interest in personal blogging against more social media-leaning
sites with sharing and passing on of content like Tumblr. /The
Guardian/’s Charles Arthur predicted this in 2009, saying that ‘for the
creation of amateur content, their heyday for the wider population has,
I think, already passed.’
